Every feature designed to make you a better cook — from AI-powered analysis to professional science notes.
Take a photo of any dish — at a restaurant, market, or your kitchen — or pick one from your photo library. Our AI works out the likely ingredients, techniques and flavors and writes a full recipe from them.
The analysis includes measurements, temperatures, timing, component breakdowns and chef notes — all of them the model's best estimate, not a tested recipe. Each recipe also gets an AI-generated picture of the dish — an illustration, not a photo of your food.
Describe any dish or drink you've ever tasted — from a Tokyo ramen shop to your grandmother's kitchen or a cocktail bar. Chef Chat writes a recipe for it from its culinary knowledge.
Ask about ingredient substitutions, wine pairings, cocktails and alcohol-free drinks, cooking techniques or dietary changes — or attach a recipe file (PDF, TXT or CSV). Chef Chat draws on culinary knowledge from across the world's cuisines.
Every dish is broken into its individual components — bun, patty, sauce, garnish — each with its own technique, sub-ingredients, and pro secrets.
Full-screen, step-by-step cooking guidance. Swipe through each step with temperatures and pro tips, plus a timer wherever a step has a set time. Screen stays on while you cook. The timer keeps counting on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and alerts you when it finishes if notifications are allowed.
Tap My Fridge and photograph the inside of your fridge, a shelf or the counter. The AI works out which ingredients are there and writes one recipe you can cook with what you already have. Each scan uses one analysis.
Every recipe comes with its own shopping list, grouped by category. Add it to your list with one tap and tick items off as you shop.
Every recipe comes with food science explanations — Maillard reaction, emulsification, protein denaturation — so you understand the why behind each technique.
With your permission, Chefbook AI resolves your location to a city and country name and includes only that name in the prompt sent to Google, as a hint for identifying a dish and for which ingredients are likely to be available near you. It is a tiebreaker, not a filter — a sushi photo taken in Istanbul is still identified as Japanese. Your coordinates are never sent to our servers or to Google, and your location is not used to schedule notifications.
Up to three recipe ideas a week — on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays — and only if you allow notifications. Offers about Pro stay off unless you switch them on in the app's Settings. You can turn either kind off there, or all notifications in iOS Settings.
Use the app in any of 18 languages and switch whenever you like in its Settings. Recipes, Chef Chat replies and science notes come back in the language you choose.
