Frequently Asked Questions

How do I analyze a recipe?

On the home screen, tap the camera button and photograph any dish, or choose a photo from your library. Chefbook AI analyzes it and generates a complete recipe with ingredients, steps, chef tips and a shopping list. The first time you use an AI feature, the app asks whether you agree to your content being sent to Google's AI.

How do free credits work?

Every device gets 1 free recipe analysis. It is a trial rather than an allowance: it does not refresh, and there is no 30-day cycle. After that you can subscribe to Pro Lite (50 analyses/month) or Pro Monthly (100 analyses/month), or buy 10 extra analyses as a one-off. One credit pays for one photo analysis, one fridge scan or one Chef Chat reply. Prices are shown in your own currency in the app.

How do I subscribe to Pro?

Tap any Pro or purchase button in the app and complete the purchase through Apple's payment sheet. No sign-in is required — Chefbook AI creates an anonymous identity for you on first launch.

How do I cancel my subscription?

On your iPhone open Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Chefbook AI → Cancel Subscription, or tap Manage subscription in the app (in Settings or on the Pro screen). You keep access until the end of your billing period.

Can I restore purchases on a new device?

Yes. Open the Pro screen (the PRO button) and tap Restore Purchases. An active subscription moves to the device where you restore it, together with any extra credits on that account, and the other device then shows that your subscription moved to another device. A 10-pack of extra analyses bought without a subscription cannot be restored — Apple does not report a finished one-time purchase — so it stays on the original account.

Is my data private?

We do not ask for your name, email address or password, and there are no analytics, crash-reporting or advertising SDKs in the app. Nothing goes to Google's AI until you agree on a one-time screen in the app. After that, a request carries what it needs: the photos you take or choose and any note you add to them, your Chef Chat messages and any file you attach, a short summary of your saved recipes (top cuisines, dietary tags and difficulty — never the recipes themselves), your city and country if you have allowed location, and the app's language. You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings › AI Data Sharing. We do not store your photos ourselves, and what Google does with a request on its own servers is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. Your recipes themselves are stored only on your device. What we do hold on our servers, and what survives deleting your account, is set out in the Privacy Policy.

Can I delete my account and data?

Deleting the app removes the data held on the device (recipes, shopping lists, chat history, settings). The exception is the iOS Keychain, which iOS keeps after the app is deleted: a random device token and a record of whether the free analysis was used — both only to stop it being claimed again on the same device — and a cached copy of your subscription status and credit balance. Your server profile is deleted from inside the app — Settings › Delete Account — and it happens immediately, with no request or waiting period. Two things survive on purpose: a one-way hash of your device identifier, so the free credit cannot be claimed again by deleting and reinstalling, and the purchase records for any receipt you redeemed, so one genuine receipt cannot be redeemed over and over. Neither holds a name, an email address or anything that describes you. Deleting the account also deletes any monthly analyses and extra credits left on it, and it does not cancel an Apple subscription — cancel that separately in iPhone Settings or with Manage subscription.
